Events on the Chopping Block!

Last week (March 2025) Wendy Porter shared a LinkedIn post that should be ringing all our alarm bells. She outlines a raft of reasons for what we are all see happening around us including outright event cancellations along with wide-spread uncertainty causing a freezing of decisions, including those related to investing in events. These sentiments and what we can do are reinforced in a post by Nicola Kastner reflecting the realities being faced by other members of ELX, the Event Leaders Exchange. (rather than reiterate, please follow these links)
Events are a primary tool for connecting people to build and nurture relationships of trust. Simply put, events are not just good for business, they are necessary for business. We cannot just stand down and roll over. If you are an event professional with data in hand that proves growth from an event, from growing your organization’s ability to communicate and innovate or directly to your sales funnel, get it in front of your decision makers. NOW.
If you are in a position of advocacy for the meeting and event industry, get NOISY. Events are more than FIFA, so if the US President can recognize that FIFA is important, surely we can prove why other events matter. We must!
Illustrate the power of events internally and externally. Don’t wait. Let’s get events off the chopping block and the chopping blocks back into our team-collaboration events.
NEW Book alert. In Our KPI is Joy: Using live events to catalyze happiness, productivity and trust coming out on Amazon March 21, 2025 I explore the many layers of using events to meet and exceed our KPIs. This is a book about life, business and the power of events.
